Eyebrow Filling Tips
A thicker brow with a sharp eyebrow pencil using light, feathery strokes, adding colour to thinner areas. As much as possible, work only with the hair that is there. The idea is to shade rather than draw on eyebrows.
Brush the brow up with a toothbrush. This will help to get the hair into firmness and settle them evenly.
Apply the colour by filling in the shape of the brow between the hairs where needed. Fill in only at the front or underneath the brow, or through the brow itself. Groom your brows with a clean mascara brush or similar tool. Move loose hairs into place and blend colour for a more natural appearance.
When you are finished with the filling process, with the help of upward strokes, brush the brows back into the place. Prefer using an eyebrow brush for this purpose as this will help soften and shade the eyebrow pencil colouring to make it look more natural.
To see the natural line of the eyebrow and where it needs to be filled, comb your brow with the help of an eyebrow brush or a toothbrush in the direction in which it grows.
How To Apply Eyeliner
Eyeliner serves as a simple and easy way to beautifully highlight just the eyes in one’s face. By varying the thickness of the lines, one can wear them for both formal as well as informal occasions. The eyeliner comes in the form of pencil as well as liquid. However, it requires a lot of precision to apply the eyeliner on the eye correctly and perfectly and this only comes with practice. Learn different ways of applying the eyeliner from this article.
Applying Eyeliner method
We have discussed three different ways of applying the eye liner to achieve three different looks.
Eyeliner for daily Look
Stretch out smooth the skin on your upper eyelid. Start applying eyeliner from the inner eye corner (near nose). Halt when you have reached two-thirds of the way along the eyelid. You can use short strokes as it will enable you to draw the line into the lash line than over it. For dramatic look, make the line on the outer side a little thicker than the inside. Repeat the same process on the other eye as well.
Misty Eyes Look
This process is a little tricky and you will definitely master it with some practice. Hold skin of your upper lid taut. Now apply eyeliner starting from the inside corner of the eye outward. Remember to keep the eyeliner line in the middle of the eyelid a bit thicker than the edges on either side. Now take a little cotton swap and damp it with water. Next use the damp cotton to slightly smudge the eyeliner. Repeat same process on the next eye. And while you practice this, know the eye shadow to suite you.
The Cat Eye Look
You have to apply eyeliner differently for this look and require liquid eyeliner. Stretch out smooth the skin of your upper eyelid. The next step is to dot liquid liner along the upper lash line as close to the eye as possible. Draw line from one corner to another of the eye. Elongate the eyeliner line upward a bit at the outer eye corner. Give the eye liner few minutes to dry. Then similarly hold the lower lid and apply eyeliner only to the outer three quarters of the rim. Lighten the line as you near the tear duct. Repeat same process on the next eye.
Tips for Lips
Shape up your lips
Applying lip liner is not only a great way to define and accentuate the shape of your lips, but also to keep your lipstick from feathering.
1. Begin applying lip liner at the centre of your natural upper lip line to define the brow then work towards the outer corners to complete the line.
2. Start at one corner of your bottom lip then follow your natural lip line all the way to the other corner.
Tip: Choose a lip liner that matches your lipstick or flesh tone shade for a natural look.
Tip: To get plumper, pinker looking lips, do not touch up by drawing a hard lip line, smudge it so lips look fuller! For a more dramatic fulness, choose a lipstick shade with a hint of frost.
Tip: To avoid lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and then draw it out slowly with your mouth closed. What you see on your finger is what would have ended up on your teeth.
Perfecting your pout
1. Apply colour onto the centre of your lips, blending up and out to the lip line working towards the corners.
2. For longer lasting colour, gently blot with tissue, reapply lipstick and blot again.
3. For evening, remember to select a lipstick one or two shades deeper than your daytime colour.
Tip: For a creamy effect, apply a lip balm to lips before applying lipstick.
Tip: For a matte effect, apply lipstick then blot gently with tissue.
Tip: For a sheer effect, apply lip balm. Gently dot a small amount of neutral colour lipstick across lips, then smooth out.
Tip: For a glossy effect, apply lipstick then finish with a cleat or nuetral colour gloss coat for a moist, seductive shine. Remember, the more coats you apply, the more shine so turn up the volume.
Getting smooth, soft and supple lips
Tip: For smooth, soft lips, take a clean damp washcloth and gently rub lips for 60 seconds before applying lipstick.
Tip: For touch-ups during the day or night, carry a soft toothbrush in your handbag or makeup kit. Be sure to brush your lips gently.
Tip: Apply a lip balm or conditioner throughout the day to keep lips hydrated and protected from the sun's harmful rays.
How to Apply Nail Polish
Make sure you wipe away all traces of old nail varnish before appling a fresh coat of colour. Even if the only product you have on you nails is clear varnish, this will prevent your coloured nail varnish from going on evenly if it is old and chipped.
Lay down a base coat on your nails once they are clean and dry. a base coat will help your coloured nail varnish go on smoothly and evenly.
Roll your bottle of coloured nail polish in between your hands to mix the varnish thoroughly. Do not shake the bottle, as this will create air bubbles that will affect the quality of the varnish. Unscrew the bottle of varnish, wiping the excess product on brush off on the opening of the bottle so that it trickles back inside. Swipe a stripe of varnish down the middle of your nail from cuticle to tip before following it with colour on either side. This guarantees that your nails have more varnish in the centre rather than on the sides, where the product can pool and roll off your nail onto your skin. Begin your varnish application with your smallest finger, saving your thumb for last instead of following the reverse order. This lessens the odds of you accidentally leaning on or rubbing varnish off of a wet nail. For a manicure, prop both hands on a table or countertop if you have unsteady hands; for a pedicure, rest your hand on the floor by your foot instead of hovering over it.
Repeat above to give your nails a second coat of varnish. This will even out your application so that any areas that appear to be needing more varnish are covered up.
Allow your nails to dry, or at lest let a half hour go by before appling a protective clear top coat on all your nails. Aside from making your nail varnish last longer, a clear top coat also helps the coloured varnish settle smoothly on your nails. Any mild grooves or unevenness in application will disappear once the top coat spreads over your nail. Once your nails have dried completely, clean up any messes by using a makeup bud. Dip the makeup bud tip into nail varnish remover and go over any spots of nail polish on your skin for nails that appear to be flawlessly varnshed.
